Globe Implements Fair Usage Policy at 1GB/Day

Browsing in Globe's unlimited data plan will no longer be "unlimited" in terms of consumption due to their Fair Usage Policy (FUP). So if you are a heavy internet user like me, it's time to bid farewell to your usual routines in the net. Every unlimited data user will now be "limited" to 1GB per day or 3GB per month whichever comes first. As a responsible user, you should now minimize your downloading and streaming activities as this 1GB data use will not last you for hours of internet connection.

Our wifi is with Globe's unlimited internet browsing on which we pay PhP999 per month but yesterday, it was subjected to this FUP. We had received a text message informing us that we have already used the 1GB allocation for the day (just before noon!) and our network speed is now downgraded to 2G. Imagine how fast 2G can be, 100-400bps! It's like staring on your monitor for a minute just waiting for Facebook to load properly. It's simply a waste of time browsing in that speed. And take note that it's a Wifi network which connects four gadgets at the same time. So that 1GB will surely be consumed within a matter of 2-3 hours. The SMS also informed us that our usual internet speed will be reverted after midnight. You can enjoy the same HSPA+ speed after that time until all the 1GB bandwidth is consumed. The unlimited surfing continues in 2G connection until 12 AM. You just have to bear with it, with lots of time and patience on hand. This FUP is quite unfair for our case as this is not what we had availed. We settled with their unlimited postpaid plan because we know how much data we consume for our daily needs. And now?!

In their FUP FAQ, Globe indicated that their policy will allow them to maintain the quality of their mobile internet service and give all Globe customers a fair opportunity to enjoy their network. That their mobile surfing offers are generally meant for emailing, browsing and search activities. That customers who frequently use file-sharing software or download large files are usually the ones affected by this policy. Media streaming and downloading of torrents also contribute to the excessive use of bandwidth capacity.

The policy applies to all surfing promos and data plans for Globe postpaid and Tattoo Lifestyle Sticks, except PowerSurf and regular internet surfing at PhP5/15minutes. This FUP is also implemented to all unlimited text and call promos.

So, this means no more Youtube and anime streaming as well as movie downloading! No more Live Without Limits!
