Cheaper Online Shop: Shopee Review (vs. Lazada)

Online shopping became a hit in 2016. In this fast-paced lifestyle, online payment becomes more convenient for the millennials. If shopping will be made online, where you do not have to go around to look for the best and the "sulit," by just typing the keyword you'd like with available sorter from lowest price to highest and vice versa, and what's hot and relevant, undeniably, your budget might get out of hand.

Good thing we have a new local option --- Shopee! When Lazada entered the market, we thought that we already found a cheaper version of items with their big discounts. Hope not! Although Shopee is not as famous as Lazada, their service is almost as good. Although I cannot guarantee the quality of both online shops absolutely, let me share my experience with them and allow you to judge and share yours on the comments section below. But before that, let me give you some of my thoughts.
Shopee, Philippines, Online Shop, Review, App, Cheap, Affordable
Benefits of Shopee
Shopee lets their user purchase items with at least PhP5 price tag. It's like an online Divisoria but less the crowded place and traffic. The sellers have their individual virtual stores where you can browse their products. You can also view the store's ratings and feedbacks for a particular item. Shopee guarantees that you will have your money back if you did not receive your order. Just make sure that you make all your payment transactions in Shopee. It offers a chat service where you can inquire directly from the seller and even make a bargain for your purchase.

The products in Shopee ranges from homewares, electronics, health and beauty, clothing, shoes, and bag, you name it.

I am also a subscriber of AliExpress and I can say that Shopee offers products which can be found in AliExpress. So, instead of purchasing in AliExpress and waiting for at least 3 weeks of shipping time, have the Shopee experience for a shorter waiting time and free of custom handling fee.

Rebates
Shopee coins are earned once a successful purchase and delivery has been confirmed. For every 1000 coins earned, you will get PhP10 off from the Shopee preferred items.

Payment Methods

You can pay your orders in Shopee through:
Shopee, Payment options, Philippines, Online Shop, Lazada

It will be easier to pay if you have bank accounts with enrolled DragonPay billing. Unlike Lazada, Shopee does not accept debit or credit card payments yet.

Shipping
Shopee offers FREE shipping nationwide with at least PhP250 purchase from a store. Once your order is confirmed, you have to wait for at most 3 days before your order is shipped. So, the shipping time ranges from 3-7 days or more, depending on their market traffic. But if you are not in a hurry to get hold of your product, this will not have a bearing on your part. I still suggest that you go for the cheap yet slow than the fast yet costly, in the end you will have the same item. Why bother to spend more of your pesos if you can wait for a few more days.

Shopee vs. Lazada Experience
My first Shopee experience is during the holiday season. I bought gifts for my friends in bulk. Although it took a longer time to arrive, around twelve days, still I was able to give it to them during our Christmas party. I ordered fifteen (15) travel pouches from Shopee which I purchased for about P135.00 less than the price of Lazada. Can you imagine I saved about P2025.00 for my gifts? The only problem is that five out of the fifteen pouches had a different brand, but they are in new and good condition. Should I complain? I guess not. With the savings, I could care less.

I was a bit hesitant to order in Shopee again but another opportunity came, so I dared to try again. I am organizing an event and I wanted to save up our budget as much as I can without compromising the quality of our souvenirs. I ordered thirty (30) pieces of pencil bags in Shopee which costs around P350 less than Lazada's tag (savings of P10,500.00). This time, all of the items are as I have imagined it to be, with a bonus of free two (2) mini calendars. Also, unlike before, it arrived in four (4) days. Perhaps the delayed delivery last time is just brought about the season. Even Lazada had a delay during that time since I ordered from them as well. I also ordered six (6) foldable bags from Shopee, priced at P120 less than Lazada's. They, too, are in good condition.

My experiences with Shopee may not have been enough but in my perspective, Shopee can be considered in the same platform of Lazada. I did have a few not so good experiences with Lazada, like a defective shoe organizer and frail luggage bags. So if you are saving up, try Shopee!

How to have the Shopee App in your device?
You can also browse Shopee Philippines using your mobile and tablet devices. Simply go to your Google Playstore or App Store and search the Shopee PH app.

Kamote ala Halayan (Halayang Ube Alternative)

Let's call this recipe, Kamote ala Halayan as the preparation and ingredients are almost similar to Halayang Ube. Instead of using ube which is quite hard to purchase in the city and a little bit expensive than sweet potato (kamote). This recipe prefers the purple variety of kamote as it is sweeter than the white and yellow varieties. But you can use the other varieties if the purple one is not available in your area. The purple hue of the kamote can even compare to the ube's color. You can learn more about the different varieties of kamote here. The cooking procedure is very easy and you can even let your kids do most of the work for a more enjoying experience for them.

Kamote ala Halayan, Halayang Ube, Recipe
Kamote ala Halayan
Ingredients
1 big can condensed milk (300mL)
2 pcs big sweet potato (kamote) - about 350 grams
1 1/2 tbsp melted butter

Total cost: around Php80

Procedure
1. Boil the kamote in a casserole until it becomes soft and the skin can easily be peeled off.
2. Remove the kamote skin and mash it along with the melted butter and condensed milk. Remember to add the milk in three portions to ease the mashing process.
3. Once the ingredients are thoroughly combined and mashed, heat a deep pan in low heat. Put the mixture in the pan, cooking it in cut and fold process until it becomes smooth and clings to the spoon. Cooking will take around 25-30 minutes. Don't let the mixture burn.
4. Allow it to cool and serve it as dessert. Refrigerate the leftovers.

Easy Graham Balls for Dessert or Snack

Summer is the best opportunity for us to indulge in the kitchen. I am not a cook myself but I prefer making desserts and snacks because they do not require much cooking time and focus. 3. For the add-ons: marshmallows and/or a pack of NIPS white chocolate. Nuts can also be used.

Graham Balls in a Crushed Graham as Sprinkles

2. Pour the can of condensed milk to the Crushed Graham and mix it well with a big spoon or with your hands.
3. With a handful of the mixture, put a marshmallow and add some nuts inside before molding it to a ball.
4. Top it with NIPS chocolate or nuts. Roll the balls in the crushed Graham that you set aside earlier.
5. Refrigerate before serving. They are best served if the balls are quite cold but not hardened.

Graham Balls when Finished

*Serving depends on the size of the balls that you will make. I made my balls larger than munchkins in this guide.

Dati Rati: Playing in the 90's

As I have mentioned in my post Where Have the Children Gone, today's generation choice of playing is electronically equipped. I had witness this apparent generation shift within the two decades that passed. Today's generation had branded their playtime with PlayStation, LED TV, Xbox, Wii, NintendoDS, Android, and iOS while during my days as a child, playtime means being in the streets and getting dirty and experiencing the goodness and fits of living along with nature. I had observed that playing in today's generation is sitting on a couch, holding a gadget and being consumed in the virtual world.

As a 90's kid, I felt proud that I experienced to get scratched from running fast, become dirty and sweaty from playing under the sun, be bullied for being the weakling, argue with playmates as for the rules of a game, get sick from playing in the rain, gamble away my collection of Pogs and texts, and panic as I ran with friends while dogs chase us. Someone might say that these things are so mischievous and they are not something to brag about. But to tell you, they are priceless once I told them to a bunch of kids in this generation. They will tell me that they had become Flappy Bird, Naruto, Kobe Bryant, Ichigo, or Spiderman in their virtual world as I tell them about the 2D games like Pac-Man, Conan, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter and Super Mario that I had played in our Family Computer. They will surely win over me once they enumerated the armors they owned in DOTA, CounterStrike, or Ragnarok. Today, they have a wide selection of videogames and it's not only played with four fingers, but in multi-touch and sensors! Now, I should be envious.

The virtual  world is awesome in its own sense but it cannot replace the emotions, learning, and epic moments shared with my kalaro (friends/playmates). We might not have taken selfies during those times to mark events in the Facebook profile but we have those moments in our natural memory cards. I have not sent text messages to invite my kalaro to our house to play nor I had been allowed to own a real cellphone, what I have is a phony phone that talks and sing whenever I press a button. But I get to experience wired communication via a string phone (remember the two cups and a thread? It works)!

Kabihug seesaw swin

The virtual world cannot measure to the thrill of spending the day visiting the what we call haunted houses as they are abandoned and dilapidated, of getting scared while walking in a dark alley because I believed in stories about the spirits of the other world, of feeling nervous that the owner of the Bayabas tree will catch us picking its fruits, and of being scolded for returning home with wet clothes from playing in the river. If the children of today would rather spend their time in front of a TV, a laptop, a computer or a tablet, I'll show my childhood days in parallel to the childhood days of this generation.

I would rather laugh out loud til my stomach ache than type lol in a keyboard whenever something is extremely funny, I will choose to race Tamiya cars with rechargeable batteries and let them bump the walls than play Krazy Kart online, to do cookout with leaves and twigs and act with blankets as costumes than strain my fingers clicking and directing Flo in Diner Dash, to play and get dirty in Futball with friends than have the football match in EA Sports game and I would rather dress up my paper dolls with my own style of cutout dresses than play the Sorority Life in FB. We should compliment the app developers for the mobile versions of the outdoor life, should we?

Ask a child today if he/she knows how to play Inserektos, Chinese Garter, Agawan Base, Habulan Upo, Sili Sili, and PenPen De Sara Pen, you'll surely get a lot of blank stares. Tell them that as a kid you used to spit on a sun drawing on the ground just to stop the rain from falling and you will hear a sounding eeewww from your audience! Though I am girl, I know how to play jolens (marbles) and tachi; these games taught me how to be a sharpshooter. Ask the children of today if they had played with marbles, surely they'll tell you that marbles are for their mother's glass vases. Show them how to spin a top and they will give you a big WOW; show them how to carved a top out of a tree branch and let it spin to dig a hole, they'll see you as god! Shoot a bamboo sulpak to one of their enemies and they will give you a hero treatment! The sulpak may be kind of harsh but it's only a cheaper alternative to their pellet guns games. Have them play Sudsud Baro and teach them how to choose the best pamato and they will make you their best friend.  Invite them to build a tree house and you'll see how some of them will be indifferent to this idea. And did I mention how playing the swing in full force will appeal to the idea of flying?

To the children of today, we might have spent our childhood days differently but as long as we had experienced the same happiness in our own different ways, then our childhood lives are very much the same. But I highly encourage our little ones to also experience nature in its physical form and you will thank me for that, labas-labas din pag may time (learn to go out whenever you can). Oh, I think I just miss my kalaro! Seems like I cannot deny the fact that I am getting older and that time is moving, giving birth to new generations of Filipino children. We may never know how the children of tomorrow will spend their childhood lives!

Malaala Mo Kaya: Pulang Laso Music by Johnoy Danao

A big thumbs up if you got here because you liked the Malaala Mo Kaya #Pulang Laso episode.

Well, who wouldn't be touched by that kind of love story eh? A love formed between two guys who will expect that it is true love. Everyone of us is quite aware that when the relationship is homosexual, they are usually for money, casual sex, and even just for passing the time. I have read comments in Facebook that they were really touched by it, that the story made their eyes puff after crying so much, that they want to have a partner like Alan, who will love them unconditionally and beyond everything.

So, for the music that added the to a memorable story: download Ikaw at Ako by Johnoy Danao.

Christmas Shopping: A Divisoria Experience

Today is Sunday, a free day to go early shopping for Christmas. Since I was in a tight budget, I decided to go to Divisoria.

How to go to Divisoria?
From UP Diliman, ride Katipunan jeep, then go to LRT Line 2 and take Recto Station as your destination. Ride a jeepney again to Divisoria/Tutuban. Other routes, I still don't know.

The Experience
Since I am not a suki of this Divisoria place, I am not accustomed to its community. I only visited Tutuban Mall and the newly-opened 999 Mall. I was shocked to witness the jam of people who chose to spend their Sunday's off in Divisoria. It was a total crowd, you have to push your way in the streets just to visit the malls. I experienced being stepped on my foot, being squeezed among goers, and also being annoyed by the lack of manners of few shoppers. People from the elite group to the grassroots were present from this crowd. Well, you can't help it, the place offers inexpensive products, your thousand peso can make you go home with a bag full of accessories, clothes, and other items.

I have seen t-shirts worth Php50.00, pants as low as Php199.00, and even shorts are sold for three for Php100.00. If you happen to give gift to toddlers and kids, you can buy them a variety of clothes, toys and accessories with just Php200.00. I have also seen housewares, secondhand cellphones are sold in bangketa, fruits, and lots of slippers and shoes.

Divisoria is a place where you can demand no more in terms of product offers; I think everything is in there, you just need a lot of patience and stamina to browse the stores. A day is not enough to go through all the stores so it's better that before you shop, you prepare a list of what to buy. The list saves time, effort and unnecessary spending. It is also cheaper if you purchase their products in bulk or in dozens. Just be very careful and cautious of the people around you because some of them are skilled in pick-pocketing and snatching.

The experience is quite unexpected because I haven't anticipated the number of people rushing Christmas shopping in a Sunday. But I was able to buy clothes, shorts, pants, basin and hangers to my pocket's capacity. That was satisfying already just learn to endure the suffocating crowded area.

I haven't been to Baclaran area, maybe next year it will be my stop.

Are We Welcoming the Idea of Third Parties?

I had watched The Mistress in Cinema and had seen the long lines of moviegoers just to watch this show. I have even seen a lola wait in line as she is being assisted by maybe her apo. Maybe some of them had watched it because of John Lloyd Cruz or Bea Alonzo. And maybe some of them shared the feeling of being a mistress and is curious how the movie will handle the theme.

As we can remember, before The Mistress was shown, there was The Other Woman which also became a hit. It has a different plot but same theme: having a mistress. And now, I came to watch the official trailer of A Secret Affair in youtube.com and it stars Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsey and Andi Eigenmann. Anne Curtis is now playing the first partner and Derek Ramsey is again taking roles of a guy with two lovers. Some said it is like the extension of The Other Woman cono on which Derek may had chosen to be with Anne. And here again revolves the story of having a mistress, a third party in the relationship. If the Other Woman ended with the Wife having her husband back while The Mistress ended with a tragedy, how will the Secret Affair end?

Are the Filipinos being liberated in this kind of idea on which they patronize on screen? Or are there so many  women now who had been in that same position before and had form sentiments of being called a mistress that's why it seemed that we are embracing third party culture? It is really extreme to the Filipino's conservative nature. Some may had said that statistically, there are more women than men and maybe this is the time for love triangles to be a norm?

d-EMO-cracy

Since I heard the word emo, I haven't looked up it's formal definition in the web. I had accepted as is the contextual definitions my social circle had imposed on me. Based on what I gather, the word 'emo' is characterized by the goth fashion (distinctive hairstyle, dark lipstick, nail polish even with the guys, eyeliners, striped shirts and long kinds of socks). Emos are the people who are more concentrated on their inner feelings, they are emotional, sensitive, and have in-depth understanding of loving and losing. These are the 'emos' in my perspective.

Then yesterday, I asked Mr. Google about it and he referred me to Ms Wikipedia. She educated me that emo is a style of music, punk rock. Even the disambiguations did not match with my pre-defined meaning. But it did not make me wrong nor my friends because the word evolves through time. People can baptize a completely new definition for it as it is affected by culture and everyday usage. Thus gradually losing it's intended definition.

As I was browsing, I came upon a lyrics which relayed a much wider characterization of the emos. The lyrics contain the picture of the typical emos, their behaviors, fashion and looks. It helped me to clarify things out from my own definition. I downloaded the song and goodness, the singers are really funny! I think we call these people in our country as the "jumping jologs" with the exception that they are always jumping at concerts.

The song is "I Must be EMO" by Hollywood Undead.

Dear Diary, Mood: Apathetic
My life is spiraling downward
I couldn’t get enough money to go to the Blood Red romance andsuffocate me dry concert
It sucks because they play some of my favorite songs like, Stab My Heart because I Love You and Rip Apart My Soul and of course Stabby, Rip, Stab, Stab
And it doesn’t help that I couldn’t get my hair to flippy thing either, like that guy from that band could do. Somedays.
I’m an emo kid, non-confroming as can be you’d be non-conforming to if you looked just like me
I have paint on my nails and makeup on my face
I’m almost emo enough to start shaving my legs, cause I feel real deep when I’m dressing in drag I call it freedom of expression, most just call me a fag
Cause our dudes look like chicks and our chicks look like dikes
Cause emo is one step below tranvestite
Stop my breathing and slit my throat
I must be emo
I don’t jump around when I go to shows
I must be emo
I’m dark, and sensitive with low self esteem
The way I dress makes everyday feel like Halloween
I have no real problems but I like to make believe
I stole my sisters mascara and now I’m grounded for a week
Sulking and writing poetry are my hobbies
I can’t get through a Hawthorne Heights album without sobbing
Girls keep breaking up with me
It’s never any fun they say they already have a pussy
They don’t need another one
Stop my breathing and slit my throat
I must be emo
I don’t jump around when I go to shows
I must be emo
Dye in my hair nail polish on my toes
I must be emo
I play guitar and write suicide notes
I must be emo
My life is just a black abyss
You know? It’s so dark
And its suffocating me
Grabbing a hold of me and tightening its grip
Tighter than a pair of my little sisters jeans.
Which look great on me, by the way
When I get depressed I cut my wrists in every direction
Hearing songs about getting dumped give me an erection
I write in a live journal and wear thick rimmed glasses
I tell my friends I bleed black and cry during classes
I’m just a bad, cheap, imitation of goth
You could read me Catcher In The Rye and watch me jack-off
I wear skin tight clothes while hating my life
If I said I like girls I’d only be half right
I look like I’m dead and dress like a homo
I must be emo
Screw XBOX I play old school Nintendo
I must be emo
I like to whine and hit my parentals
I must be emo
Me and my friends all look like clones
I must be emo
My parents don’t get me , you know?
They think I’m gay because they saw me kiss a guy ,well, a couple of guys
But I mean, it's the 2000's, can’t two, or four dudes make out with each other without being gay?
I mean chicks dig that kind of thing anyways
I don’t know diary, sometimes I think you’re the only one on that gets me, You’re my best friend, I feel like tacos.

By the way, I like the title that I had come up with with this post. downward

Where Have the Children Gone?

When I was a kid, I am always outside, playing with other kids in our neighborhood. We make the streets loud and make the air damp and sweaty. I am a girl but I climb trees, fly kite, ride a bike, chase dragonflies and grasshoppers and go over the bakod. I got my tan color from playing inter-in (patintero), inserectos, tumbang preso, habulan (It), Chinese garter, that's the color, one-foot, taraguan (hide-and-seek), and even dangkalan. Boardgames and dolls make me bored. But now, our streets had become quiet. Maybe because we had grew up and the number of kids lessened throughout the years. Maybe the parents had become more strict. Or maybe the modern gadgets had taken the children as its prey.

The kids of today are more advanced when it comes to using computers and are more knowledgeable on the latest online games. They can lead a batallion at young age. Kill people virtually, be exposed in the gory and creepy streets in Silent Hill (I know it's old already). They have established a second person in the web or even in their handheld games.

I had a tutee on which he prefers to be rewarded with the cash he can use in Rakion. Pa-cash he said, worth 200 pesos. He want it that way than receiving an actual 1000 pesos from his father. I asked him why he liked that. He said "because my Dad won't let me use my own money to buy those virtual stuffs so, I told him that he have to buy them for me and my proposal is cheaper by 800 pesos. He accepted it". I didn't reacted as long as it makes him satisfied. This boy is just 9 years old and he is already selling crazy kart cars on the web. The cars are worth 25,000 gold cash or more and he uses it to buy more equipped ones.

This is just an example on how the virtual world has affected the lives of our younger generations. They had become more strategic, more conceptualized and more ma-diskarte. But I can say that these modern technology had robbed these kids their childhood days. They had transported their childhood lives into a portal, on which there's nth chance to try again not only second chance. As a result, they had become ignorant on the exciting and lively things they can do under the sun. As technology evolves, it's providing the indoor versions of the games played outside. There's a Wii game for fishing, golfing, bowling, soccer, and etc.

Ok, you can call me old-fashioned. But I had enjoyed my childhood in closeness with nature.
Do you agree to this kind of childhood?

Filipinos by Name Only

The love for our country is becoming less significant to the Filipinos of today. Our belief that our united love for our country ended when the wars ended is absurd. Many of us are not anymore familiar with our existence in this country as well as the roles we are to partake as members of it. More are becoming ignorant and less sympathetic to its importance. Less people are participating in rallies or even silent protests. Haven’t we forgotten that we became popular around the world because of the successful People Power? Haven’t we benefited from the impact of this in our lives today? If not for that, we might still be one of the caged nations in the east. Though, I admit I, for one, is not yet born when that campaign happened. I just seen it on documentary videos and I felt the brutality of it. Yes, we watch TV, read the news, but it all ends in a sitting position. News has become a form of entertainment instead of a medium to encourage nationalism. WE don’t care about the murders of others (what we only do is murmur how pitiful their fate was), the environment campaigns are just ads and not to be taken seriously, the lives of celebrities take more attention from us than the problems occurring in some communities, but our ears are wide-open when the news talks about our health. Imagine how selfish the Filipinos had become; from the one for all to the mind your own business race. If not for the death of Francis Magalona many of us will still be unaware that there are still advocates who promote the great archipelago in the Pacific.

I am not trying to convince people to join rallies whenever possible. What I am just pointing out is that for at least as Filipinos we should feel obligated to the future of this country and not just focus on ourselves or on the people we love. We should not be Filipinos by name but by heart. We can start by just caring for our environment. I am just disappointed with the Earth Day last Saturday. There are a lot of ads calling for support for the planet earth. But the households in my place did not even participate in this cause because they think it is nonsense. Many are not aware of this happening and many just don’t care. Turning off the light for one hour, what can it contribute for the future? Actually, it is not the actual turning off the lights. The turning off the lights is a symbolic pledge that from now on we will use the energy wisely. It is like a reformat for our everyday lifestyle and the turning on the light marks its start. With just this simple task, my province is becoming less cooperative. I hope it is not the same on your place.
