Super Affordable! MyPhone My28S Selling at PhP888 (Smart)

Smart Communications, along with MyPhone, has offered its customer a very affordable phonekit at the start of year 2016. For the first 50 thousand customers, they were able to provide the MyPhone My28 for only PhP888 with free sports watch and a monthly 100MB data allocation for 12 months. But due to growing demand and with the phone running out of stock, the phone kit was downgraded to a lite version, the MyPhone My28S. The My28S with the "S" is a downgraded version because the used to be 8GB internal memory of My28 was turned to 4GB and its camera quality cannot compare to the previous version. But it is still a bang for your buck since the retail price of this phone is PhP1,999. Now, it's one of the only two Android phones in the price range of below PhP1,000 and running a quad core processor (the other one is Cherry Mobile Flare Lite 2, Globe's counterpart to this Smart's promo). I have ordered one online to grab this sale opportunity while I am still in NCR;  it's COD with no shipping fee so, the price is still PhP888 (yey! no sweat in waiting in cue). You will only be allowed to order a maximum of 3 phonekits online or even when you purchase from a Smart store due to the high demand.

Cons
The battery drains easily so, equip yourself with a powerbank.

I have decided to buy one because it is rare for Android phones to be selling below P1000. Also, this phonekit promo easily runs out of stock due to high demand so, find yourself lucky if you got one at Php888 price. Smart has restock their supply with the new My28S. The available colors of this phone online are white and black. The phone can also be brought at some Smart stores in red, yellow and blue colors.

You can order MyPhone My28S online via the Smart website and wait at least 7-10 days. They ship for FREE to anywhere in the Philippines. You can purchase online using DragonPay (BPI, UnionBank, etc), BancNet ATM Cards, or using credit cards. If you want your purchase to be instant, go to the nearest Smart store in your location.

How to Keep 3G/4G Internet Access in Your Android Device?

I got a Samsung Smart Gravity phone from my aunt last week and I tried to tweak this 2011 model phone to keep up with the fast developing Android world while typhoon #Lando is slowly making his downpour. I rooted the phone and updated the firmware because the stock ROM feels lousy (though this phone has only one existing working custom ROM up to this date). So far, it's snappy now but I encountered a certain problem, the network signal won't stick with the 3G strength, it is always in EDGE even if it is a 3G phone.

New! Unlimited Internet with Unli Call and Unli AllNet Texts For Less Than PhP10/Day (TNT/Smart)
keep 3G, 4G, LTE signal, not edge, Android, samsung

So, I browsed the net and read so many helpful tutorials that opened new horizons to my not-so-varied Android experience. And I came up with this tutorial that will help Android users to back away from the 2G/EDGE signal and empower their phones/tablets with 3G/4G signal using the different mobile networks in our country. This works for most brands such as Samsung, Cherry Mobile, Huawei, Sony, etc. Just try this tutorial and comment below if it did not work with your phone brand so I can update this post.

Disclaimer: This tutorial will NOT prevent your SIM from being blocked/throttled by your network due to heavy downloading or bandwidth overuse. It only provides users with simple tweaks to let their device experience the 3G/4G speed instead of the EDGE/2G speed by default.

How to Make Your Android Device (Phone/Tablet) Stick with 3G/4G?
To get rid of the sluggish 2G/EDGE signal of your device,
1. Grab your phone/tablet and dial *#2263#. This will bring your device to its Service Mode.
2. Three options will display in the screen and I bet yours will have asterisk (*) in the Automatic option. Now, tap {2} WCDMA Band Preference to choose this option then hit the back button of your device twice after a page confirms your selection.
3. Done. Check the network status by dialing *#0011#. Your device should say that it's now using the WCDMA band.

enable 3G 4G, android, service mode, wcdma, LTE, GSM, secret codes
Service Mode Screen (*#2263#). Set it to WCDMA Band Preference.
Note:
-Make sure that your device is a 3G/4G capable phone. If not, the WCDMA/H+/HSPA+ will not stick. Your device will not connect to a network or it will revert back to GSM (Auto).
-This signal eats up much battery compared to the primitive 2G/EDGE signal. So, have a handy powerbank with you.
-You don't need to be rooted to make this work.
-If it did not work, just follow the steps again and choose Automatic in the options to restore your previous settings.
-This tutorial is very helpful for those not-so-advanced 3G Android devices that didn't have these options in their Settings Menu.

Other secret codes that may come handy with your Android device:
*#*#4636#*#* (or *#*#INFO#*#* for easy memorization) - it can show your device info and network status. You can edit DNS in your device here, you can PING Google using your phone to check your internet access and you can also set the internet mode here (GSM, LTE, WCDMA, etc).

Phone Info Page
*#197328640# - For advanced users of service mode. It will bring options to debug screen, network and phone control, RF and other technical stuff.

Experience Globe Through Postpaid Plans: It Did Get Better

Globe PH's bundle of CloudFone Pad 750w and CloudFone 354g at PhP499 per month had enticed me to inquire their postpaid plans. But as I had read reviews of these CloudFone brand, I was discouraged to avail the bundle though I badly wanted a tablet and a new android phone. But still their tagline, "Avail a postplain now and double what you paid for" had convinced me to check out their other handsets and I settled myself with their Huawei Ascend G510 plan at PhP499 per month.

The Globe Postpaid Plan
When you avail of the postpaid plan, you can choose among the different plans ranging from PhP299-3799 per month. You can also avail of the unlimited plan and family plan of group three up to 10 unli plans in bundle. Each plan has equivalent Peso Value (PV) with the lowest plan 299 at 500 PV each month. The PV works like a converted money for purchase in the site in which you can purchase gadgets, combos and boosters.

The Gadget (Optional)
As part of the postpaid plan, you can have a free gadget or you can opt to SIM only. As for my case, I availed a phone and I am quite satisfied with it. The specification of Ascend G510 are better than those other phones in the entry-level league. With its 4.5" IPS screen, Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdrago Dual COre 1.2 Ghz processor, and 512MB RAM, I can already play hard core games like NBA 2k13, Dungeon Hunter, Temple Run, Ripside, MC4, etc. The only weak spot of this phone is that its small internal memory of 1GB but it can be solved by adding a microSD card of at least 4GB. To fully enjoy your Android experience, I suggest you root your phone after the gadget's one month warranty had expired cause it will void your warranty (just make sure that you had tried and tested everything in your phone and is satisfied that nothing is wrong with it). Out of the box, the phone do not come with so many bloatwares inside thus, saving your time managing your internal memory.
Combos, Boosters, and Gadgets

The Combos
The PhP499 plan will give you a 900 PV per month on which 99PV is allotted for the compulsory availment of the 50MB internet surfing per month and the gadget's 250PV purchase per month. So per month, you will be left out with 551 PV for your consumption of regular load or for purchase of another combos. You can choose your combo among the following:
1. 125 texts to all network (100 PV)
2. 100 text to all network + 5 mins call to Globe/TM (100PV)
3. 20 mins Globe/TM calls (100PV)
4. 5 mins IDD and 5 international SMS (100PV)
Caveat: Globe does not have a function to inquire about the status of your remaining texts and calls in the combos so you have to manually monitor them so as not to incur additional amount in your monthly bills.

The Boosters
You will also be offered to choose from their boosters but the payment will be added on top of your monthly PhP499 bill. For instance, you added Unlimited call and text to one Globe number for PhP175 per month, you will be billed PhP674 monthly. Other boosters are:
1. Unli All Net text (Php599/month)
2. Unli Calls and Texts (Php599/month)
3. Surf 50MB (Php99/month)
4. Surf 300MB (Php299/month)
5. Surf 1GB (Php499/month)
6. Unli Dup and Landline (Php450/month)
7. Unli Mobile and Landline (Php599/month)
8. Unli Text (Php349/month)

You can check the Outstanding balance and Unbilled balance of your postpaid account by calling *143# and choose My account.

Take note, you can also purchase their plan with just the postpaid SIM and no added combos nor boosters.

Requirements for Application
I have applied for a new subscription with just a valid ID and a previous month payslip. Other Globe stalls require a proof of billing but since I do not have a permanent home in the city, they let me get away with that requirement.
Also note that your consumable regular load cannot be transferred through Share-a-Load.

P.S.
If you can compare this with their previous version of postpaid plans, I think I go with their previous version. The previous one loads your phone with the your monthly consumable thus giving you less worries in incurring additional amount in your bills since you can monitor it by just checking your balance.
